Project Overview
The My Path to Safe Housing Initiative (MPSHI) is the cornerstone of our work in homeowner protection. It was created in response to widespread reports of contractor misconduct, fraudulent billing, and unsafe construction practices in low-income and environmental justice communities.
MPSHI brings the law to the people by translating complex legal protections into plain language that homeowners can use every day. The program helps families understand their rights under Massachusetts law, including:
- The Consumer Protection Act (MGL Chapter 93A), which prohibits unfair or deceptive acts
- The Home Improvement Contractor Law (MGL Chapter 142A), which requires written contracts and licensed work
- Federal protections against fraud, wire deception, and racketeering
Resources
Through MPSHI, homeowners can access free resources that include:
Mini Grants
grants from $100-$500 to help homeowners with emergencies
Toolkits
legal rights packets and downloadable toolkits
Guidance
where to file complaints and help recovering losses
Workshops
workshops on contractor accountability and housing laws
Our team also collaborates with local organizations to investigate patterns of fraud and ensure that community voices shape housing policy reforms.
MPSHI is not only a program that benefits homeowners, it is a movement to make housing justice accessible and real. By standing together, we can ensure that every family in Massachusetts lives in a home that is safe, affordable, and built on integrity.
